The private residence of former KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube was engulfed in flames on Sunday night, sending emergency teams rushing to the Hillcrest property, west of Durban. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours before managing to contain it.
No injuries have been reported, though the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and investigators are working to determine whether it was accidental or the result of foul play.
The incident comes on the same day Dube-Ncube made national headlines following her appointment as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s latest cabinet reshuffle.
Dube-Ncube, who served as KZN Premier from 2022 to 2024, has not yet released a public statement regarding the fire.
