The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) paid a solemn tribute to Private Xavier Raynard at his funeral in Kimberley, Northern Cape, mourning the loss of a β€œgreat asset” whose dedication and bravery touched all who knew him.

Raynard, a proud member of the 10 Anti-Air Regiment, tragically lost his life on 27 July during a border patrol mission under Operation CORONA near the Madimbo Operational Base in Limpopo. In a rare and devastating incident, he was fatally trampled by a herd of elephants while on duty.

Military leaders, fellow soldiers, and family gathered to honour his memory, remembering him as a courageous soldier who served his country with unwavering commitment and distinction. The loss has left a deep void within the SANDF community.

In response, the SANDF has launched a formal board of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Meanwhile, the military is also providing psychosocial support to help his family through this difficult time, standing by them in grief and solidarity.
