The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have slammed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave, calling it a weak response to explosive allegations of political interference and ties to organised crime.
EFF leader Julius Malema didn’t hold back, saying, “The president should fire Mchunu immediately. He is new in the job but already tainted. He went to that institution to do wrong things.” The party has also filed a formal complaint with Parliament’s Ethics Committee, accusing Mchunu of violating the Constitution and undermining the integrity of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
With trust in law enforcement rapidly eroding, the EFF insists only Mchunu’s outright dismissal can begin to restore public confidence. As pressure mounts, opposition parties are uniting in their call for stronger action, warning that anything less could set a dangerous precedent for accountability at the highest levels of government.
