Welkom police have arrested two 34-year-old men during a focused, intelligence-led operation targeting drug activity in the townβs central business district.
According to Sergeant Palesa Thabana, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa District Police, officers moved in on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, after receiving intelligence about two African males allegedly selling drugs near the corner of Bok and Karoo Street. One suspect was caught red-handed with drugs concealed in his socks. The other made a run for it but was swiftly apprehended by alert officers.
A search of the suspects uncovered 18 full mandrax tablets, a packet of crystal meth, and R389 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Both individuals now face charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
The duo is expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrateβs Court today as authorities continue efforts to clamp down on drug-related crime in the area.
