Tensions flared during a heated sitting of Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing serious allegations made by General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, as MK Party MP David Skosana stepped in to urge calm and objectivity.
Skosana directed his comments at newly elected chairperson Soviet Lekganyane, after the ANC MP appeared visibly offended by a pointed question from ActionSA MP Dareleen James. James had asked, “How do we garner trust when the ANC chairperson was elected from the very party where many of these individuals are implicated?”
The question struck a nerve, prompting a defensive response from Lekganyane. But Skosana quickly stepped in, appealing to the chairperson not to take the remarks personally. “We need to stay focused on the work at hand,” he said, cautioning against emotional reactions that could derail the committee’s credibility.
As the inquiry continues, political fault lines are becoming increasingly visible—highlighting just how high the stakes are in this investigation into alleged political interference in SAPS operations.
