A suspected gang attack was stopped in its tracks on Sunday, 22 June 2025, when members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s Tactical Response Unit, working alongside SAPS, arrested three men believed to be key players in violent gang activity across Riverlea, Eldorado Park, and Westbury. The breakthrough came after officers acted on sharp intelligence, intercepting the suspects before they could execute what appeared to be a carefully planned assault.
Authorities revealed the trio was en route to test unlicensed firearms at an intersection in Klipspruit West, reportedly in preparation for a targeted shooting. Officers seized three illegal firearms, multiple magazines, and ammunition during the operation. A silver VW Polo, believed to be linked to the suspects’ movements, was also confiscated on the scene.
The suspects are now in SAPS custody as investigations continue to probe their connections to broader gang networks and recent violence in the city’s west.
