A man lost his life in a devastating crash on Edwin Swales Drive in Durban at around 5 am on Monday. The accident occurred just before Bluff Road, where a light motor vehicle collided with a stationary truck. ALS Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the situation dire. The vehicle had two occupants, both severely trapped.
With the help of the eThekwini Fire Department, paramedics worked to free the men from the wreckage. Tragically, after assessing the driver, a man in his 30s, it was determined that he had sustained fatal injuries. There was nothing more paramedics could do, and he was declared dead at the scene. The passenger, also a man in his 30s, had critical injuries. He was stabilized by Advanced Life Support paramedics and transported to a nearby facility for further medical care.
While the cause of the crash remains unclear, both Durban Metro Police and SAPS were present at the scene, investigating the incident.
In a separate incident, a family of four was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident on the N3 highway, just before the Mariannhill Toll Plaza, on Sunday afternoon. Medics who arrived at the scene found that the vehicle had lost control and rolled multiple times, ultimately coming to rest on its side. The family members, ranging in age from 13 to 70, sustained injuries that varied from severe to moderate. They were all taken to the hospital for further treatment and care.
