The Democratic Alliance (DA) has formally lodged a criminal complaint against Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane, accusing her of misleading Parliament regarding the appointment process of Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta) board chairpersons.
Speaking on behalf of the party, DA Federal Chairperson Helen Zille outlined the basis of the complaint, citing Section 27 of the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act. If found guilty under this provision, the minister could face a fine or imprisonment for up to three years.
According to Zille, the complaint stems from claims that Minister Nkabane provided inaccurate or incomplete information to Parliament during official proceedings, undermining both transparency and the integrity of parliamentary oversight.
The DAβs legal action marks a serious escalation in its efforts to hold public officials accountable and reinforces the partyβs call for clarity and honesty in matters of public administration. The Higher Education Ministry has yet to respond to the allegations.
