Five people, aged between 25 and 35, were rushed to hospital after a violent shooting erupted at a tavern in Bloemfontein early Saturday morning. The terrifying incident began when a 30-year-old man allegedly tried to leave the tavern with bottles of liquor. When stopped by bouncers, he dropped the bottles, returned to his vehicle, then came back armed with a firearm and opened fire on patrons inside.
The victims suffered injuries to shoulders, knees, and thighs, while one male narrowly escaped a bullet that tore through his trousers. A bouncer was also targeted but miraculously remained unharmed.
Emergency medical services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Meanwhile, the suspect fled in a white Mazda 2 but was quickly apprehended by officers from the Parkweg police station and the Bloemfontein Flying Squad.
Authorities recovered a licensed 9mm firearm with an empty magazine from the vehicle. The suspect now faces seven counts of attempted murder and is expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue. This chilling event underscores the ongoing challenges of violent crime in the region.
