Western Cape police have successfully apprehended three suspects who were allegedly caught red-handed while attempting to sell uncut diamonds in Cape Town. The trio is expected to make their court appearance soon.

According to Captain Frederick van Wyk, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, the arrests were carried out by SAPS’ Flying Squad members following a critical tip-off. Authorities had been alerted to a potential illegal transaction involving an uncut diamond at a property in Elsies River. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officers moved in on the location, where they immediately identified the suspects.

The three men, aged between 50 and 52, were caught in the act as they tried to sell four uncut diamonds to a buyer. However, before the deal could be completed, the officers intervened, preventing the illicit trade.

Following their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody at the Elsies River police station, facing charges related to the illegal possession of uncut diamonds and fraud. Officers also confiscated a diamond tester along with the diamonds, which have an estimated value of approximately R60,000. The suspects will soon stand before the Goodwood Magistrates Court to answer to the charges against them.
