A major development has emerged in the high-profile murder case of Mpho Mafole, the Chief Auditor of Ekurhuleni Municipality, who was brutally gunned down on June 30, 2025, in Kempton Park.

Gauteng police have confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect linked to the killing. The suspect was apprehended on July 20 and is due to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, July 23, 2025. His identity has not yet been released.
Authorities are now urgently seeking a second suspect, Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango, who remains at large. A warrant of arrest has been issued for Mncwango, and law enforcement has made a direct plea for him to surrender. The public is also being urged to assist, with tips welcomed via the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously through the MySAPS app.
Mafole’s body was discovered inside his vehicle along the R23, riddled with gunshot wounds. While the motive behind the targeted attack is still unclear, investigations are active and ongoing.
The arrest marks a critical step toward justice in a case that has rocked the municipality and raised serious concerns over the safety of public officials.
