Former President Jacob Zuma and the MK Party have launched an urgent application in the Gauteng High Court to challenge President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent decision to place Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on leave and appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as acting minister.

This move follows the Constitutional Court’s July rejection of Zuma and the MK Party’s direct-access bid related to the matter.

Zuma and his party argue that Ramaphosa’s actions are illegal and are demanding that the High Court review and overturn these decisions.

The case adds another layer to the ongoing political and legal tensions surrounding leadership changes within South Africa’s policing structures.
