Tensions have erupted within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s parliamentary caucus, as a group of its own Members of Parliament has called for the immediate removal of Chief Whip Colleen Makhubele. In a formal letter addressed to party president Jacob Zuma, the MPs accused Makhubele of poor leadership, centralised decision-making, and a growing ideological disconnect with the party’s values.

Central to the criticism is Makhubele’s perceived stance on foreign policy, particularly what some MPs describe as a β€œpro-Israel” position β€” a view they claim sharply contrasts with the broader party line. Her critics have also labelled her a β€œpolitical novice,” expressing frustration with what they see as her inexperience and unilateral style.

Makhubele’s short time in the position follows several leadership shakeups within the MK Party, adding to the perception of internal instability. As the party works to solidify its place in the National Assembly, these latest developments highlight a deepening rift that could threaten unity at a critical time.

Neither Makhubele nor party leadership have officially responded to the calls for her removal. The situation remains fluid as discussions continue behind closed doors.
