At least 14 South Africans are currently being held in Zimbabwean jails, as part of a widespread crackdown on illegal migration affecting over 70 foreign nationals. The majority of these individuals have been arrested for illegally crossing the border, with many housed in Harare Remand Prison and facing charges related to unauthorized entry.

Reports from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission indicate that some of the detained foreign nationals, including the South Africans, are awaiting deportation, while others face more serious criminal charges. Seven South Africans were arrested in the past month as part of a larger group of 66 individuals arrested for the same offense.

However, the situation is more complicated for at least three South Africans, who are scheduled to appear before the Harare Magistrate’s Court this month. These individuals face serious charges such as conspiracy to commit armed robbery and drug dealing, complicating their legal situation.

As Zimbabwean authorities have yet to release a clear timeline for deportations or trials, families of the detained individuals are growing increasingly anxious for updates and a resolution. The crackdown highlights ongoing challenges with border control and illegal migration in the region.
