In a tense courtroom drama unfolding at the Roodepoort Magistrateโs Court, Mduduzi Mnisi, 39, accused of the premeditated murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, has vehemently denied any knowledge or connection to the teenager.
Likhona, a Grade 8 pupil at Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville, vanished after leaving home on May 31, 2025, to play with friends. Her mutilated body was discovered the following day in a veld near Durban Deep, Roodepoort, under circumstances that have deeply shocked the community.
During the court proceedings, Mnisi pleaded not guilty, insisting he only became aware of Likhonaโs name when he was charged. This denial comes amid mounting allegations from the prosecution, which claims to possess evidence linking him to the brutal killingโdetails of which remain under wraps for now.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is firmly opposing Mnisiโs bail application, citing his prior convictions for attempted murder and robbery as well as his parole status at the time the crime allegedly took place.
The case was delayed once again this week after the defense presented new evidence, pushing back further hearings and intensifying public frustration.
Outside the courthouse, community members and activists have gathered in a show of solidarity and outrage, demanding swift and just action for Likhona.
As the investigation continues, the court is scheduled to reconvene to reconsider bail and further assess the evidence against Mnisi, keeping the nationโs eyes fixed on this high-profile and heart-wrenching case.
