Floyd Shivambu’s new political vehicle, Mayibuye iAfrika, is turning up the pressure on government leadership, calling for the immediate dismissal of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and the suspension of General Shadrack Sibiya. The party is demanding that both men step aside to allow for a full, transparent criminal investigation into the growing storm of allegations surrounding political interference and corruption within South Africa’s security services.

The demand follows shocking claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused Mchunu of obstructing police investigations, colluding with criminal networks, and dismantling a task team probing political assassinations. While Mchunu has been placed on a leave of absence by President Cyril Ramaphosa—pending a judicial inquiry—Mayibuye iAfrika says this is not enough.

The party argues that Mchunu’s continued presence in government, even in a suspended capacity, undermines the credibility of the investigation. Sibiya, who has also come under scrutiny in the saga, must also be held to the same standard of accountability, the party insists.

As political pressure mounts and the call for criminal accountability grows louder, Mayibuye iAfrika is positioning itself as an uncompromising voice against what it sees as deep-rooted rot in South Africa’s law enforcement leadership.
