Two women are grappling with fear and trauma after being allegedly assaulted by a male colleague during a shared early-morning commute on Wednesday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), officers responded to a distress call at around 2:00 a.m. and arrived at the scene to find two victims, aged 22 and 29, visibly shaken and injured.
The group, employees at a Durban-based call centre, were travelling in a carpool vehicle from La Lucia to Cornubia when a discussion about transport turned abruptly violent.
The women claim the male colleague, who was partially standing on the back seat, launched a sudden and unprovoked attack. One woman was struck in the eye with a metal spoon, while the other endured multiple punches to her face and upper body. Both suffered visible injuries.
Adding to the trauma, the attacker reportedly issued threats to prevent the victims from reporting the incident to their employer. A third female passenger, identified as the perpetratorβs girlfriend, was unharmed during the attack.
Fearing for their safety, the victims have since opened a criminal case and are seeking legal recourse.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as the community awaits justice for the harrowing incident.
This disturbing event highlights ongoing concerns about personal safety during daily commutes and the urgent need for workplaces to address employee safety and conflict prevention.
