Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a dramatic farm robbery near the Kusile Power Station, where five armed suspects launched a coordinated theft in the early hours of Thursday, August 14.
The gang reportedly stole an array of items including:
- A silver Ford Ranger Club Cab
- 11 sheep
- A blue and black generator
- A silver fridge
- Jumper cables
- A silver BMW loaded with 50 egg-laying chickens
- Five cellphones
With the help of a tracking company and private investigators from Tshenolo PI, authorities traced the stolen Ford Ranger, the BMW, and an additional silver Mazda along the R42 between Bronkhorstspruit and Delmas.
A high-speed chase ensued, with the suspects abandoning the BMW during the pursuit. The chase stretched into eTwatwa, Daveyton, where the suspects ditched the Ford Rangerβstill carrying the stolen livestock.
One suspect, an illegal foreign national, was arrested while driving a Mazda Etude reportedly used to block officers during the chase.
Further investigations in Bronkhorstspruit led to the recovery of additional stolen property, and police say more arrests are imminent as the investigation deepens.
This robbery adds to growing concerns about rural crime and cross-border criminal networks targeting South African farms.
