Two City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers are set to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrateβs Court on Thursday, facing serious charges of kidnapping and extortion.
According to police, the officersβwhose identities have not yet been releasedβare accused of illegally detaining an individual and allegedly demanding money for their release. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, but early reports suggest the officers may have used their positions to intimidate and exploit the victim.
The City has confirmed that the officers are attached to its Law Enforcement division, and an internal probe has been launched alongside the criminal case.
βThese allegations are deeply concerning and will be dealt with decisively. No one is above the law,β said a City spokesperson.
The matter has sparked public concern over police abuse of power and accountability within municipal enforcement structures. The officers are expected to apply for bail during their court appearance.
