A 38-year-old foreign national has been arrested in Parklands, Cape Town, after authorities discovered over R1 million in cash and a stash of bank cards linked to multiple individuals during an early-morning police raid.

The arrest took place in Holly Crescent, Table View, after the Provincial Operational Command Centre acted on intelligence regarding suspected drug-related activity in the area.
Upon searching the premises, officers uncovered a massive cache of South African and foreign currency, along with a bag filled with bank cards registered under various names. The suspect was unable to provide a credible explanation for the possessions, raising further suspicion of financial and cyber-related crimes.
βThis appears to be part of a broader network involving financial fraud or cybercrime,β said a police spokesperson.
The man is now in custody, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and conspiracy to commit cybercrime. Additional charges may follow as detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Commercial Unit delve deeper into the case.
The suspect is due to appear before the Cape Town Magistratesβ Court on Thursday, 15 May 2025.
Authorities say the case may have international connections and is part of a wider effort to crack down on financial crimes and identity fraud rings operating in the Western Cape.
