In a major boost for South Africa’s automotive sector, Mahindra South Africa has officially opened its state-of-the-art vehicle assembly plant at the Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone in KwaZulu-Natal — a move that signals both confidence in the local economy and a bold new chapter for the brand.
Spanning an impressive 14,000 square metres, the new facility replaces Mahindra’s previous assembly site and dramatically scales up production capabilities. The plant is now equipped to assemble over 1,000 Mahindra Pik Up models each month, featuring cutting-edge quality control systems and bespoke customization zones designed specifically for the South African market.
But the impact isn’t just technical — it’s human. The new facility is expected to generate approximately 100 new jobs, contributing directly to regional employment and skills development at a time when economic growth is sorely needed.
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to the country, celebrating more than two decades of local operations. He noted that the expansion aligns with increasing demand for locally assembled vehicles and reflects Mahindra’s vision of being more than just a brand in South Africa — but a partner in its progress.
With this launch, Mahindra cements its position as a serious force in the country’s vehicle manufacturing space, adding momentum to local production while answering the call for durable, affordable vehicles tailored to African roads.
