In a dramatic turn of events, five suspects posing as police officers have been arrested in Gauteng after hijacking a delivery truck in a calculated daylight operation.

The suspects β shockingly aged between 50 and 69 years old β allegedly used fake police uniforms and marked vehicles to pull over the truck before taking control of it and its cargo.

A Bold and Brazen Crime
According to police, the group executed the hijacking with military-like precision, flashing what appeared to be official SAPS credentials and lights to deceive the driver into compliance.

βThey were dressed in full police regalia,β said Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters. βBut their authority was an illusion β and theyβve now been unmasked.β
Arrests and Investigation
The arrests followed a coordinated sting operation, with law enforcement tracking the suspects through surveillance and tip-offs. All five are now in custody and expected to face charges including vehicle hijacking, impersonating police officers, and possession of stolen goods.
The vehicle and its cargo, reportedly of high value, have since been recovered.
Organized Crime or One-Time Heist?
Authorities are investigating whether the suspects are part of a larger hijacking syndicate β a growing concern in Gauteng where cargo crimes are on the rise. Their advanced age and strategic execution have raised eyebrows, suggesting experience and coordination.
βThis wasnβt amateur work,β one investigator noted. βIt was planned β and possibly not their first time.β
Next Court Date
The suspects are expected to appear in Germiston Magistrateβs Court later this week as the case unfolds.
