Former MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu is set to officially unveil the National Consultation Team (NCT) for his ambitious Mayibuye Consultation Process on June 27, 2025, marking a major step in his bid to form a new political movement potentially named “Mayibuye iAfrica.”

The initiative follows Shivambu’s dismissal from the MK Party earlier this month, sparked by a contentious, unauthorized trip to Malawi to visit fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri.

Shivambu presents the Mayibuye process as a transparent, inclusive consultation effort, aimed at rallying South Africans around the formation of a new party grounded in revolutionary values of honesty, accountability, and community engagement, drawing inspiration from the legendary freedom fighter Amilcar Cabral.

The movement has attracted significant momentum, with tens of thousands of volunteers signing up to participate. Prominent supporters such as former EFF chairperson Vusi Khoza and acclaimed actor Fana Mokoena have lent their backing to the cause.

The NCT will engage widely with traditional and religious leaders, activists, and grassroots communities to shape the emerging party’s values and vision in preparation for the 2026 local government elections.

However, Shivambu’s bold move has also intensified tensions, notably legal battles with MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela, who has filed defamation claims over disparaging remarks made during the political fallout.

As the political landscape shifts, all eyes will be on Shivambu and the Mayibuye iAfrica initiative as it seeks to carve a new path in South African politics.
