Residents of Hammanskraal are preparing for yet another disruption as the City of Tshwane has announced a scheduled 10-hour water outage on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, due to critical maintenance work at the Temba Water Purification Plant.
The shutdown β set to run from 07:00 to 17:00 β is aimed at facilitating the cleaning of Temba Reservoir Number 3, a key part of the areaβs strained water infrastructure. While the maintenance is described as essential for improving long-term water quality and supply, residents remain frustrated, citing frequent water service interruptions and years of infrastructure decay.
The Hammanskraal region has long struggled with water quality issues, including past concerns over contamination and inadequate purification capacity. Wednesdayβs outage, though planned, places added pressure on residents who have had to adapt to inconsistent access to clean, safe water.
City officials have urged residents to store sufficient water in advance and assured the public that water tankers will be dispatched to affected zones as needed. However, many locals remain skeptical, pointing to previous outages where tanker deliveries were delayed or insufficient.
The planned maintenance highlights the broader challenge facing Hammanskraal β the need for sustained investment in water infrastructure, and a long-term solution to the regionβs chronic water woes.
