A massive fire broke out at the Greyhound bus depot in Jet Park, Boksburg, on August 17, 2025, destroying three buses and a trailer in a blaze that lit up the skies near OR Tambo International Airport.

Emergency teams from the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded swiftly, with crews from Boksburg, Leon Ferreira, Albertina, and Primrose stations, joined by ACSA fire rescue, working together to contain the flames.

Firefighters managed to save two additional buses by moving them away from the danger zone. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire safety officials, and damage assessments are ongoing.

The incident raises serious concerns about infrastructure safety and fleet security, especially for one of South Africa’s most well-known long-distance bus operators.
