A 39-year-old former traffic officer, Abednego Desmond Mbuyane, has been handed a 12-year prison sentence by the Mpumalanga High Court for the 2023 murder of his wife’s boyfriend, Thamsanqa Sbusiso Nkosi.
The chilling case unfolded after Mbuyane, suspicious of his wife’s silence, used a GPS device to track her to Kwanyoni Lodge. Upon arrival, he broke into the room where she was with Nkosi. Following a brief confrontation, Mbuyane chased Nkosi and fatally shot him before fleeing the scene. He later turned himself in to the police.
⚖️ Court Rejects Claim of Sudden Anger—Rules Murder Was Premeditated
Although Mbuyane pleaded guilty, the State contested his version, presenting evidence that the murder was premeditated. The court agreed, convicting him not only of murder but also housebreaking. The 12-year sentence will run concurrently for both crimes. Additionally, Mbuyane was declared unfit to own a firearm.

The case stands as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of personal conflict and the resolve of South African courts to uphold justice.
