South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, has issued a bold call for a more just and equitable global order, urging an end to exploitative resource extraction practices that have long disadvantaged Africa.

Speaking on behalf of a continent rich in minerals but impoverished by structural inequality, Lamola denounced the historical and ongoing economic imbalances that allow powerful nations and multinational corporations to profit while African communities bear the environmental and social costs.

β€œThe time has come to dismantle the structures that enrich a few at the expense of many,” Lamola said, emphasizing that Africa must no longer be treated as a source of raw materials without a stake in the global value chain.

His remarks add to growing momentum among African leaders demanding greater control over their resources, fairer trade terms, and a stronger voice in global institutions. Lamola also called for the reform of international financial systems and decision-making bodies that continue to sideline the global South.

As Africa pushes for economic sovereignty and sustainable development, Lamola’s statement signals a firm stance: Africa’s wealth must serve its peopleβ€”not fuel foreign prosperity.
