Controversial Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso is officially leaving South Africa today, bringing a dramatic chapter in one of the countryβs most drawn-out and closely watched legal battles to a temporary close.
Omotoso is expected to depart from OR Tambo International Airport this morning, just days after being released from custody. His departure follows an appeal against his classification as a prohibited person in South Africaβa label that, for now, remains under legal review.
The televangelist, alongside Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, was recently acquitted of 32 charges, including human trafficking and rape, marking the end of an emotionally charged eight-year trial that gripped the nation and made headlines across the continent.
