Cape Town police have confirmed an investigation is underway following the tragic drowning of an elderly Polish couple at Table Bay Harbour on Wednesday.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but authorities responded after receiving reports of two bodies in the water near the V&A Waterfront, a popular tourist destination. Emergency services recovered the bodies, believed to be that of a married couple visiting from Poland.
The exact circumstances that led to their drowning are still under investigation. Foul play has not been ruled out, and post-mortem examinations have been scheduled.
Police have not yet released the names of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. The Polish consulate in Cape Town has been informed and is assisting with the case.
Officials are appealing to the public and potential witnesses to come forward with any information that could help piece together what happened in the final moments leading to the couple’s death.
