A devastating accident on the N2 highway near Beacon Bay, Eastern Cape, claimed four lives on Saturday evening, May 10, 2025, leaving a community in mourning.
Among the deceased were three 14-year-old boys and their driver, believed to be a mentor or coach. The group had been returning home to Gonubie after participating in a soccer tournament at Bunkers Hill Stadium when tragedy struck.
According to early reports, the bakkie they were traveling in overturned, leading to a deadly crash that scattered victims across the roadside. Fourteen others, also believed to be part of the same group, sustained injuries and were rushed to Frere Hospital for emergency medical care.
Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, called the incident “very unfortunate,” emphasizing the painful loss of young lives full of promise and the man guiding them.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident as families and the wider community await answers.
