Dr. John Hlophe, Deputy President of the MK Party, has fiercely criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa for his cautious and indecisive approach to the Senzo Mchunu scandal.
Hlophe alleges Ramaphosa is hesitant to act decisively because he personally appointed Mchunu and may be entangled in the allegations against him. He blasts Mchunu’s special leave as a costly misuse of taxpayers’ money, allowing the minister to keep benefits while under investigation.
Highlighting constitutional concerns, Hlophe argues that having both a minister and an acting minister simultaneously in one department violates the law.
The MK Party vows to take the matter to court, condemning Ramaphosa’s response as weak, expensive, and damaging to public trust. This showdown follows Ramaphosa’s move to place Mchunu on leave after accusations surfaced from KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
