A 19-year-old nurse from the United States, Lucrecia Koiyan, is facing serious legal consequences after disturbing videos surfaced online, showing her twerking and dancing inappropriately over disabled men in her care. The footage, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage across social media and led to Koiyanβs arrest.
In one of the videos, Koiyan is seen grinding on the head of a shirtless man sitting helplessly in a bathtub. She then nonchalantly reaches into her pocket, pulls out a pill box, and administers a pill to the man, raising further concerns about the abuse of her caregiving responsibilities. In another equally shocking clip, Koiyan, dressed in her scrubs, dances suggestively over another disabled man who sits motionless in a chair.
The public backlash was swift, with many accusing Koiyan of ableism and discrimination against the disabled community. Social commentary YouTuber Atozy weighed in, criticizing the incident as a symptom of a broader social media problem. “Itβs almost like TikTok is a perpetual social experiment in search of a new societal low,” he remarked. “What is wrong with people? Why canβt you just do your job correctly and not act out for some TikTok attention? Where was the upside here?”
The abusive conduct was promptly reported to the Loganville Police Department, which executed a search warrant on Koiyan on January 23. According to the department’s media statement, Koiyan was arrested and charged with one felony count of exploiting a handicapped person. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
Loganville Police Chief MD Lowry expressed his disgust over the incident in a statement to USA Today. “We were appalled and disgusted that Koiyan would create such a video where she is violating disabled people,” he said. “As police officers, our highest duty is to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and my detectives worked as swiftly as possible to bring charges in this incident.”
The case has sparked broader discussions about the responsibilities of caregivers and the ethical boundaries being crossed for social media fame. As the legal proceedings move forward, many are calling for stricter oversight in the healthcare industry to prevent such disturbing incidents from recurring.
