Two Mozambican nationals, aged 34 and 47, were arrested in Mpumalanga after the brutal murder of a 41-year-old woman, Vinolia Sedibe, during a violent farm attack on December 2, 2024. The suspects, who were taken into custody on Tuesday, are facing multiple charges, including murder, house robbery, attempted rape, and other related offences.

According to Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, provincial police spokesperson, the attack unfolded when the two men stormed into a farmhouse, where they held two women hostage during a robbery. Tragically, Vinolia Sedibe was strangled, and her body was later discovered in nearby bushes. Her family has since identified her as the victim.

The swift response and diligent investigation by detectives from Lydenburg SAPS led to the rapid apprehension of the suspects. The police praised the efforts of both law enforcement and community members who provided vital information in solving the case.

Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, condemned the attack, particularly during the ongoing 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. He acknowledged the dedication of the officers involved and expressed relief that the suspects had been caught. “It is deeply concerning that such a heinous crime occurred during this important period, but we are encouraged by the swift justice in this case,” Mkhwanazi said.

The two accused men will soon appear before the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court to face the charges. The case has sparked further calls for increased safety and protection for women and children, especially in rural areas.
