The disappearance of South African actor, theatre director, and poet Pesa Pheko has taken a chilling turn. Pheko, 37, vanished in July after leaving his Bloemfontein home for a routine doctor’s appointment. Months later, his wife, alongside another individual, has been arrested in connection with his disappearance.
Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli confirmed that the suspects, aged 34 and 39, were apprehended following an in-depth investigation. The pair face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and were expected to appear in the Botshabelo Magistrates Court. Pheko was last seen wearing a green bomber jacket, black jeans, sneakers, and a grey beanie, reportedly leaving his home in L-Section to take public transport.
Pheko’s family had earlier filed a missing person’s report at the Botshabelo Police Station and issued public pleas for assistance in finding him. The news of the arrests has sparked a wave of emotions, particularly among Pheko’s close friends and colleagues. One anonymous friend expressed hope that justice will be served, stating, “It has been too long and it hurts.”
