A break-in at Mbokodo Primary School in Pienaar, near Mbombela, has left parents furious after thieves allegedly stole essential items meant for students. The incident took place on Sunday, February 2, with the intruders gaining entry through the school’s fence and taking food for the nutrition programme, toilet paper, and even crayons.

Patrick Shiba, the deputy chairman of the school’s governing body, expressed shock and disappointment over the crime. “The locks were damaged, and the wall in the kitchen was drilled,” he said, highlighting the vandalism that accompanied the theft. Some stolen items were even found discarded outside the school, suggesting the burglars may have been interrupted mid-crime.

Shiba emphasized the emotional toll the incident has taken on the community, describing the act as “inhumane.” He called for the authorities to track down the culprits and ensure the stolen goods are returned. The impact of such crimes is not only felt by the school but also disrupts vital resources for the students.

Mpumalanga Education Department spokesperson Gerald Sambo voiced his concern, stressing how these criminal acts undermine efforts to provide adequate resources for education. He urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the police. Authorities are actively investigating the break-in, with provincial police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirming the case of burglary is ongoing.
