Donell Mbele, the 23-year-old son of actress Sonia Mbele, was granted R1,000 bail after appearing in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday. He faces two charges related to an alleged incident involving his 17-year-old girlfriend. The incident reportedly took place at Donell’s Morningside home on December 14 and 15, 2024.
Phindi Mjonondwane, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), confirmed that the charges stem from a complaint filed at the Sandton Police Station. According to the girlfriend, she and Donell spent time together at Clearwater Mall on December 14, before deciding to visit another venue. She alleges that Donell suggested they stop by his home to charge his phone, and it was there that the alleged events took place. The case has been postponed until February 10, 2025, to allow for further investigation.
This is not the first time Donell has faced legal challenges. In 2022, his previous girlfriend, Reokeditswe Makete, accused him of a confrontation after she questioned him about personal matters. These previous allegations have added to the attention surrounding his actions.
Sonia Mbele has expressed her disapproval of her son’s behavior in a statement. She emphasized that Donell would take responsibility for his actions and face the consequences. Sonia also revealed that Donell is undergoing rehabilitation as part of his personal growth journey. “Rehabilitation, therapy, and healing will guide him toward accountability and improvement,” she said, expressing both her commitment to holding him accountable and her support for his healing process.
