The Shoprite Group is offering an exciting bursary opportunity for students in South Africa. The bursary is available to those pursuing degrees in accounting, retail business management, supply chain and logistics, or biological and agricultural sciences. It covers a range of financial support, including tuition, housing, a monthly grocery allowance, and access to the retailer’s Employee Wellness Programme. Additionally, recipients are given job offers upon completion of their studies.

Lindsey Joseph, the head of Group Talent Solutions at Shoprite, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing talent for long-term sustainability. “As South Africaβs largest private employer and leading retailer, we recognize that a skilled workforce is essential for our future growth,” Joseph said. The bursary aims to develop the next generation of professionals who will contribute to the companyβs ongoing success.
Mapaseka Mashabela, a 27-year-old manager in the Gauteng division, is one of the success stories from this bursary program. After receiving financial support from Shoprite to complete her diploma in retail business management, she started as a trainee manager and now oversees the fresh food department. Mashabela credits education and the opportunities at Shoprite for her career growth.
In the past fiscal year alone, Shoprite funded over 230 students through its bursary program, investing R19 million. This initiative earned the company the Gradstar Students’ Choice Award and solidified its position as an Employer of Choice. Applications for the bursary opened on 1 February, and eligible students are encouraged to apply for this valuable opportunity.
