Two security guards were tragically shot dead in broad daylight on Monday, 3 February, in Langa, Cape Town. The incident occurred near the Langa Taxi Rank, where the guards were escorting a delivery vehicle. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before a vehicle sped off from the scene. Street vendors at the rank described the chaos, with one vendor stating they took cover inside their stall to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fled in a white VW Polo, having ambushed the guards while their vehicle was in motion. One witness explained that the gunmen, walking on foot, had positioned their getaway car a short distance away before opening fire on the guards. The attack took place as commuters were leaving work, and the area was left in shock after the gunshots rang out.

Western Cape police confirmed the shooting, stating that the two guards, aged 24 and 31, were fatally wounded during the attack. Captain Frederick Van Wyk of the Langa police confirmed that the guards were escorting a delivery vehicle when the ambush occurred. Despite the violent nature of the attack, nothing was stolen from the victims, and their firearms were recovered from the vehicle.

Police suspect that the motive behind the attack may have been robbery, but investigations are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting CrimeStop at 08600 10111 or anonymously through the MySAPS mobile app.
