Safa President Danny Jordaan, along with two co-accused, was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with an investigation into alleged fraud and theft totaling R1.3 million. The arrests followed a lengthy probe by the Serious Commercial Crimes unit, which uncovered evidence suggesting that between 2014 and 2018, Jordaan used Safa’s resources for personal benefit. Allegations include hiring a private security firm for his protection and engaging a public relations company without board approval, among other financial misappropriations. The suspects were arrested at their homes and had to be processed at local police stations, causing a delay in their appearance at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The Hawks confirmed the arrests and indicated that search-and-seizure warrants executed in March 2024 at Safa’s headquarters had provided crucial evidence for the charges. Jordaan, along with a 46-year-old businessman and two other co-accused, is expected to appear in court later today to face charges. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to probe the full extent of the alleged financial misconduct.
