N2 Traffic Halted After Collision Involving Pig Transport Truck and Fire

Traffic on the N2 highway between Grabouw and Strand, near Sir Lowry’s Pass in Cape Town, was brought to a halt on Tuesday, 21 January, after a collision involving two trucks transporting pigs. The crash caused a dramatic scene as pigs were scattered across the road, some dead and others severely injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a container truck collided with the back of a truck carrying pigs. The impact sent the animals flying onto the road, causing significant disruption. Meanwhile, the container truck lost control, veering off the road and crashing into a nearby embankment, where it subsequently caught fire.

Videos of the crash circulated on social media, showing the aftermath of the accident. Western Cape Department of Mobility spokesperson, Muneera Allie, confirmed the details of the incident, stating that while no fatalities or injuries had been reported, the scene created a major traffic delay. “Following the brief closure of the road, a stop-and-go system has been implemented. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution,” Allie added.

The situation left many drivers stranded, but authorities quickly worked to contain the chaos and clear the wreckage. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of road accidents and the importance of remaining alert on the road.
