The initiative, spearheaded by the school, sought to celebrate and uplift the elderly, acknowledging their vital role as pillars of wisdom and guidance within the community while helping them embrace the festive spirit.
On November 1, Links Combined School visited the Ndzundza Macingwane Traditional Council in Mcanqtsa to donate food parcels, clothing, and toys to elderly residents in the community. The initiative, led by the school, aimed to bring the elderly into the festive spirit while recognizing their vital role as pillars and advisors within the community.

The elderly, along with the traditional council, warmly welcomed the schoolβs delegation with an uplifting programme of appreciation. The donations included essential food items, gifts, and toys for the grandchildren of the elderly recipients. This gesture was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to give back and support those in need, particularly as the year draws to a close.
Gugu Ngwenya, whose family has been actively involved in supporting the elderly for years, expressed her gratitude for the schoolβs partnership and commitment to the initiative. βWe have maintained a strong relationship with the royal council and plan to continue this tradition. Every year around this time, we unite with the school to provide goods that are useful to elderly individuals. Healthy, nutritious food is critical to keeping them strong,β Ngwenya said.
Chief Ndzundza Macingwane also expressed his appreciation for the school’s consistent generosity. βItβs an honour to be a trusted partner when the school wants to give back to the community. Since 2018, they have approached us annually to support the elderly in need. Their efforts ensure our elders are well cared for,β he said. Chief Macingwane also shared plans to visit the school with the elderly recipients so they can witness firsthand the positive impact of Links Combined Schoolβs initiatives.
Principal Q Moyo expressed immense pride in the initiativeβs success. βSeeing the smiles on the faces of our elderly residents brings us immense joy. Our efforts are not about seeking recognition but about showing gratitude and appreciation for the role they have played in shaping us into the adults we are today,β Moyo said. The school has pledged to continue its support for the elderly, with plans to invite them to the schoolβs year-end excellence awards ceremony later this month, celebrating both academic and community achievements.
