Joburg Water to Implement Further Water Reductions in High-Usage Areas
Johannesburg Water has announced additional measures to curb water consumption in certain areas, building on the water restrictions that have been in place since September. The new water reduction strategy will target high-use regions starting on Monday, with a focus on managing demand more efficiently.
The utilityβs water conservation efforts will involve reducing water pressure in these high-demand areas during specific hours, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This move is aimed at alleviating pressure on the cityβs water supply while ensuring that resources are more evenly distributed.
Mzakhe Mtshweni, the general manager of operations at Johannesburg Water, emphasized that the reductions will be implemented according to a set schedule. βA schedule will be publicized and shared with customers and the media, so they are aware of when their area will experience reduced water supply,β he explained.
Johannesburg Water encourages residents to stay informed about the planned reductions and to take proactive steps in conserving water during the scheduled periods to help manage the city’s water resources effectively.
