A deadly shooting rocked the Delft taxi rank in Cape Town on Thursday morning, 16 January, during peak commuter hours. The incident occurred just after 5am, when many people were heading to work and children were on their way to school. A witness described seeing a person fleeing, being chased by gunshots, before the shooter fired a final, fatal shot at the victim.

The witness, who was on her way to work, recalled running for safety while others rushed to help the victim. Tragically, the man was shot in the head and died at the scene. The incident unfolded in full view of commuters, some of whom were parents walking with their children to catch taxis.
This shooting follows another violent incident just two days earlier at the Nyanga taxi rank, where one person was killed and several others injured. Police have stated that the Nyanga shooting involved a conflict between two security guard factions protecting rival groups within the same taxi association, fighting over financial disputes.
