Gauteng Transport MEC, Diale-Tlabela, assured the public that efforts are underway to restore Gautrain services in Rosebank following a disruption caused by damage to the tunnel. Preliminary investigations revealed that the property owner in the area had drilled a borehole without proper authorization, leading to water and soil leakage into the tunnel. While engineers work on a solution to repair the damage, the service cannot currently extend beyond the affected area. The Gautrain management apologized for the inconvenience and promised to keep passengers updated as the situation evolves.
In the meantime, alternative transportation options have been put in place. Gautrain spokesperson Albi Modise confirmed the introduction of bus services to mitigate the disruption. A bus replacement service has been set up between Rosebank and Park station, running every 15 minutes from 05:30 to 20:30. This measure aims to ensure that passengers can still travel between these two key stations while repairs are underway.
The disruption has left many passengers inconvenienced, but the transport department remains hopeful that the situation will be resolved quickly. MEC Diale-Tlabela emphasized that the safety of passengers is a top priority, and once the repairs are completed, Gautrain services will resume as normal.
While the issue is being addressed, Gautrain continues to operate with the added bus service, ensuring passengers can continue their daily commutes with minimal disruption. The transport department urges all commuters to remain patient and assures them that the team is working diligently to restore full service.
