Theo Hartzenberg, a former Legal Aid attorney from Cape Town, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of serious charges related to the exploitation of vulnerable young individuals. The charges, which include statutory rape and sexual exploitation of children, stemmed from incidents that took place in 2021.
During the trial, the court heard from several witnesses, including young individuals who described how they were paid for engaging in inappropriate acts with Hartzenberg. Many of the victims were homeless or facing financial hardship, which made them vulnerable to exploitation. The court’s findings revealed that Hartzenberg had taken advantage of the situation by offering money to these young individuals for his actions.
