Two of the men accused of murdering South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane have had their bail applications denied by a Durban court. Muziwenkosi Harvey Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 9 January 2025, seeking release based on new developments in their cases. Magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo rejected their requests, stating that there were no new facts to justify altering the previous ruling.

Gwabeni’s legal team argued that his child’s school fees, amounting to R100,000, were overdue, and that his family had been suffering emotionally since his arrest. He claimed both his child and the mother had sought counselling. Meanwhile, Ndimande presented an accident involving his taxi, although authorities confirmed no injuries had occurred.

Despite these claims, Magistrate Hlatshwayo ruled that the information provided was not sufficient to warrant bail. The investigating officer and the court found the reasons unconvincing, leading to the continuation of their detention. This decision comes as part of the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile murders.

The case has been postponed to 7 February 2025, with both suspects remaining in custody. As the investigation into the killings of AKA and Tibz continues, the court proceedings are expected to attract further attention, with many awaiting justice for the victims.
