Kini Shandu, known for his role as Ndlovu on Mzansi Magic’s Umkhokha: The Curse, has tied the knot in a beautiful celebration of love and tradition. The actor, presenter, and businessman, who is also known for his work on SABC1’s Daily Thetha and Gagasi FM, married his partner, Andile Khanyile, in a heartfelt ceremony that has captured the attention of many.
The couple first wed in July during a Shembe Church ceremony at Ebuhleni, north of Durban, with the presence of their church leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu Shembe. However, Kini and Andile are set to celebrate their traditional wedding in even grander style on Sunday, 15 December, at Kini’s home in Gingindlovu, on the KZN north coast.
Kini, 39, expressed how this momentous step in his life was a dream come true. “Getting married is a step many dream about in their lives, and I’m happy that I’m finally reaching that stage to be a married man,” he shared. While the church wedding in July marked a significant milestone, Kini emphasized the importance of the upcoming traditional ceremony, as it would officially announce his union to his ancestors and the wider community.
The wedding will be a fusion of traditional elements, deeply rooted in Shembe Church customs, with the couple and their guests expected to don traditional attire. The celebration will feature the harmonious sounds of isiZulu hymns and Shembe songs, accompanied by the distinctive sounds of horns and drums. Kini also reflected on his earlier engagements with Andile, including the paying of lobola in April 2023 and the umembeso (exchange of gifts) ceremony held at Andile’s home in Nongoma later that year. For Kini, this traditional wedding is not just about a union of two hearts, but also a significant cultural and spiritual milestone.
