Tshego Gaelae, a 35-year-old beauty queen from Centurion, Tshwane, has made history as the first Black woman to be crowned Mrs World. She won the prestigious title on January 31, 2025, in Las Vegas, marking a significant moment in the 40-year history of the pageant. Tshego described the victory as surreal, expressing her gratitude and humility, saying she focused on doing her best and representing South Africa, rather than solely aiming for the win.

The pageant week in Las Vegas was filled with activities, including interviews, a dignitaries’ dinner, and the preliminary competition leading up to the finale. Tshego relished the opportunity, describing it as a life-changing experience. Despite the intense schedule, she remained focused and determined, celebrating the chance to compete on such a grand stage while building lasting friendships with fellow contestants, particularly her roommate, Mrs Sri Lanka, Ishadi Amanda, who was crowned 1st Runner-Up.
Tshegoβs journey to the Top 2 was made even more special by the bond she shared with Ishadi, and she was thrilled to witness their mutual success. After the competition, Tshego returned home to a heartwarming welcome at the airport, where the South African public celebrated her historic achievement. The overwhelming reception left her feeling honored and appreciated by her fellow countrymen.
Looking ahead, Tshego plans to use her title as Mrs World to become a global ambassador and drive change. She is passionate about using her platform to address issues such as poverty and hopes to make a meaningful impact with her projects.
