Naledi Aphiwe Myongwane, the talented 17-year-old singer from Inanda, Durban, has a birthday wish that could make her dreams come true. The multi-award-winning artist, known for her viral singing videos and collaboration with global superstar Chris Brown on his track Shooter from his 2023 album 11:11, is hoping to open for Brown during his South African tour on 14-15 December at FNB Stadium.
With her birthday on the 16th of December, Aphiwe expressed her excitement, saying, “That will be the best gift Iβve ever received in my entire life.” Having worked with Chris Brown already, Aphiwe sees his return to South Africa as a momentous occasion, one that highlights her growing impact in the music world.
Despite her rising fame, Aphiwe has remained committed to her education. Reflecting on her journey, she shared how balancing school and music was challenging, but her dedication to finishing her final exams was key. βFinishing school is very important because it opens doors,β she said. Now that her exams are over, Aphiwe is ready to dive into her music career full-time.
The Ngiyabonga hitmaker also took the opportunity to encourage her peers to prioritize education while pursuing their passions. βStay in school, even if good things are already happening in your life,β she advised. βYou can even multitask. I managed to focus on my music while being at school, and Iβm confident Iβll pass.β
With school behind her, Aphiwe is setting her sights on the future. She is working on an EP set to release in March 2025, promising her fans more soulful music that reflects her growth as an artist.
