Former South African president Jacob Zuma has unveiled a bold vision to “reclaim” the African National Congress (ANC), expressing a deep desire to restore the party’s legacy in alignment with its ancestral roots. Speaking passionately on a podcast, Zuma revealed his plan to unify “black” political movements under the banner of his newly founded MK Party, a move he believes will reassert the principles on which the ANC was built.

In his address, Zuma lamented what he perceives as a betrayal of the ANC’s foundational values. “The ANC has deviated from our ancestors’ vision,” he declared. “It has lost its way, and I will bring it back to honour those who came before us. This is not just political; it is deeply personal. I owe it to the generations who sacrificed for our liberation.”

Zuma’s strategy involves rallying support from a coalition of historically “black” political organizations, which he claims share a collective yearning for the ANC’s revival. Through his MK Party, named after the liberation movement uMkhonto weSizwe, Zuma envisions a unified front capable of reclaiming the party leadership and redirecting its trajectory. This audacious move signals his ambition to challenge the current ANC leadership and reposition the party as a custodian of its revolutionary ideals.

The former president’s declaration has sparked a wave of reactions across the political landscape. Critics view it as an attempt to disrupt the ANC from within, while supporters hail Zuma’s commitment to safeguarding the party’s heritage. As the nation watches this dramatic development unfold, one question looms large: will Jacob Zuma’s plan to “take back” the ANC succeed, or will it mark another polarizing chapter in South Africa’s political history?
